| Northwest Minority Business Council 2007 Summit Awards Gala
The Northwest Minority Busines Council recognized firms for their outstanding efforts during the past year at its Summit Awards Gala held at the Seattle Westin Hotel on February 9.
2007 marks the council's 30th anniversary as the leading organization in the Northwest in promoting economoc development for the minority business community.
The Council was founded in 1976 with only sixe corporate members, four governmental agencies and two certified Minority Business Entreprises (MBEs). Currently, the organization has grown to include 83 corporate members, 16 government agencies and more than 300 MBEs.
While majority of its members are in Washington state, the Council seeks to expand its visibility and exposure to Oregon businesses.
"Our growth and accomplishments make a significant impact on improving the minority business community. We have witnesses the successes and challenges our members face in increasing the capacity and capabilities of diverse suppliers in competing for business opportunities," said Joyce Zhou, acting president of the NMBC. "We firmly believe that having a supply base that reflects today's diverse customer base is not only a good business strategy, but a necessary one in an increasingly competitive global economy."
